Experience Bikaner :
The history of Bikaner goes back to 1488 when a Rathore Prince, Rao Bikaji founded
his kingdom here after he was provoked by an insensitive remark by his father. He
was the second son of the illustrious founder of Jodhpur, Rao Jodhaji. Rao Bikaji
focussed on the barren wild area of Jangladesh which he transformed into an extraordinary
city. This principality was turned into a princely state by the foresight of Maharaja
Ganga Singh who saw to it that Bikaner developed into a modern city. The location
of Bikaner on the medieval trade route worked to its advantage and the place soon
became a prime trade centre. The city is set on a slightly raised ground and is
surrounded by a seven km long wall that turns it into a castle. Bikaner is also
called the Camel Country for it is the home to the largest camel research and breeding
farm in the world.

Lalgarh Palace : It is a masterpiece in red sandstone which was built by
Maharaja Ganga Singh in memory of his father Maharaja Lal Singhji. This grand palace
was designed by Sir Swinton Jacob. The architecture of the building is a blend of
the Rajput, Mughal and European architecture.

Junagarh Fort : The Junagarh Fort was built by Raja Rai Singh, one of the
prominent generals in the Mughal Emperor Akbar's army. Encircled by a moat, this
fort is a formidable construction which stands unconquered till this date.

Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary : Located at the distance of 32 km from Bikaner
on the Jaisalmer Road, the Gajner Wildlife Sanctuary is known for being the habitat
of wildfowl, hares, wild boar, desert foxes and antelopes. There is a beautiful
lake within the sanctuary which is surrounded by dense forests.

Deshnok Temple : Also known as the Karni Mata temple, the Deshnok temple
is located in a small village called Deshnok. It is believed that Karni Mata was
an incarnation of Goddess Durga who performed many miracles here.
