In the vast expanse of the Thar desert, where you don't expect even a single bacteria
– all of a sudden there appears a complete city which has a divinely golden hue
around it. Located on the Trikuta hills, it is completely built with yellow sandstone
which explains the presence of golden hue around the city. The imposing city of
Jaisalmer was founded by Rawal Jaisal after he deserted his fort at Lodurva. The
city largely consists of the Jaisalmer fort which with its magnificent splendour,
dominates over the skyline of the region completely. The city of Jaisalmer comes
alive in the months of January and February as it is the time of the year when the
Desert Festival is held.

Jaisalmer Fort : Locally it is called Sonar Qila and it is an imposing structure
which will automatically command your attention. It is the second oldest fort in
Rajasthan which is home to about 25 % population of the city. If going into details

styles of architecture.

Gadsisar Lake : Located on the outskirts of Jaisalmer, the Gadsisar lake
is a major attraction of the city. It is actually a water conservation tank which
was the main source of water for the entire Jaisalmer.

Jain Temples of Jaisalmer : These are old temples which are a major pilgrimage
centre for the Jains. All these temples are dedicated to various Jain Tirthankars
and are built in Diwara style renowned the world over for its style of architecture.
These temples are also made by yellow sandstones and are open to the visitors till
12 noon only.

this airport is managed by the Indian Air Force and is operated only between the
months of September through March. Therefore reaching Jaisalmer through Jodhpur
would be better for you. Jaisalmer is well connected with all the major cities of
India by the railway network. The place is connected by a good road network as well
which connects it to other major cities of Rajasthan and India.
